Home > Candidates > Town Candidates > Keith Scalia for Town Council

Keith Scalia is a high school English teacher and lifelong resident of Massapequa, where he lives with his wife Jennifer, daughter Cassandra, and son Logan.  A product of the Massapequa School District, Mr. Scalia went on to receive his B.A. in English as a student in Adelphi University's prestigious Honors College.  He is currently completing his M.A. in Humanities at Hofstra University.

Mr. Scalia inspires and motivates his students to contribute to both school and community.  He constantly challenges his students to become more well-rounded critical thinkers, while empowering them to develop communication deftness. In addition to serving on school and district committees and serving as a faculty mentor for "at risk" students, he has coached and been the faculty advisor for many different student activities.  "I am most proud of my work with the Community Service Club, a club I organized from the ground up."  Under his guidance, Community Service Club members volunteered in some aspect seven days a week; raising funds and volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, The Salvation Army, Gerwin Geriatric Center, and various other organizations.  Moreover, Community Service club members mentored "at risk" first and second graders in elementary schools four days a week.  Because of his commitment and dedication, Mr. Scalia's students have honored him with nominations for recognition in Who's Who Among America's Teachers for the past three years.

Scalia has a remarkable reputation for volunteer service to his community.  In addition to volunteering in various capacities with the Boy Scouts of America, he is an active member of the Nassau County Chapter of the American Red Cross, and a trained volunteer for the elite Disaster Service Human Resources and Disaster Action Teams.  "Many people are unaware, but the Red Cross responds to disasters right here in Nassau County on a regular basis.  When disaster strikes within our community or nationwide, day or night, the D.A.T. or D.S.H.R. responds to the emergency needs of our neighbors for food, clothing, and shelter."  On top of responding to the recent Glen Cove water crisis, numerous house fires, and flood victims, Scalia has been collaborating with assorted Nassau County Legislators, and the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management as a representative for the Red Cross educating county residents of the potential dangers hurricanes can bring, and how to best prepare themselves in the event of one.

As a sibling to a courageous active duty Coast Guardsman, and grandson to two heroic World War II veterans, Scalia understands the importance of being mindful of both our current soldiers and veterans.  He recently volunteered for the Homeless Veterans Stand Down at American Legion Post 360.  "Volunteering was the least that I could do in order to help improve the opportunities for these deserving Americans to regain control of their lives and once again enjoy the freedoms they helped preserve."  Moreover, he has volunteered for the Jacob's Light Foundation, a grassroots Long Island charitable organization in memory of Long Island paratrooper, Pfc. Jacob Samuel Fletcher, that sends our military overseas necessities and comforts from home, in addition to caring for soldiers whose families cannot afford to send boxes to their loved ones.

"In the Town of Oyster Bay, we desperately need both Democrat and Republican representation.  We have had one party rule for far too long and therefore have had no discussion or debate between Councilpersons and the Supervisor. Consequently, the voices and opinions of all Town of Oyster Bay citizens are not heard.  If there is one thing history teaches us, power will be abused if left unchecked."

"As a Councilman, I will improve and protect the quality of life in Oyster Bay for this generation, and generations to come.  Cultivating and preserving talent is vital to the Town of Oyster Bay's future.  Due to high housing costs, lack of stimulating job opportunities, and deficiencies in innovative smart-communities, the region is exporting its most valuable commodity - its citizens.  Discontinuing this exodus will require strong leadership from community, business, education and government working together as stewards for the long-term welfare of the Town of Oyster Bay, and Long Island as a whole."
